APRIL ALBERT, the artist of “Blossom of Durango,” has been creating stunning floral displays since the age of 10, when she began assisting her aunt, a floral designer in southern California. In high school she worked with the concierge florist for the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Laguna Niguel. She then apprenticed with two talented Orange County florists, where she learned the fine nuances of flower arranging. Even while living the California dream, and coaxing fresh flowers into exquisite arrangements for all occasions, April yearned for the mountains rather than the beaches. It was on a trip to Durango that she discovered her love for all things Colorado. She founded “April’s Garden of Durango” in 1997 and for ten years April’s Garden was Durango’s premier florist. Feeling a touch of wanderlust after that first decade in Colorado, she returned briefly to California to reunite with family and the ocean. During this time April became aware once again of the insistent pull of the mountains and knew that her beloved Colorado and the Durango community she had chosen and grown to love was calling her back. “Blossom of Durango” is the culmination of April’s homecoming dream to connect nature with art through the glory of flowers.
